Which quality criteria do the products of HANS SCHRÖDER fulfill?

Independent of their actual use, all our products have one thing in common. They are especially chosen, designed and produced for the specific requirements of archives, libraries, museums and private collections.


1) Quality of archival material for written cultural goods

The following table gives a detailed overview on the cardboard and paper qualities used within our product range. Look for the three symbols CLASSIC, PREMIUM and PREMIUM PLUS to quickly identify the cardboard or paper quality level corresponding to your requirements.

Certifications in accordance with DIN ISO standards

Many products have been tested and certified according the following archival norms. You will also find the corresponding quality and testing symbols within the product descriptions in our catalogue and online offer.

ISO 9706 The international standard norm DIN ISO 9706 for permanent paper and cardboards has requirements to minimum strength, measured by a tear test; minimum content of calcium carbonate, measured by the alkali reserve; maximum content of easily oxidized material, measured by the kappa number; maximum and minimum pH values of a cold water extract of the paper or cardboard. With the symbol on the left, Hans Schröder confirms that marked products have been successfully tested according the DIN ISO 9706 standard.
ISO 16245 Next to the permanence criteria of DIN ISO 9706, the norm ISO 16245 specifies requirements for boxes and file covers, made of cellulosic material, to be used for long term storage of documents on paper or parchment. Testing criteria include the surface structure, the use of colours and adhesives, the water resistance as well as handling and functionality. With the symbol on the left, Hans Schröder confirms that marked products have been successfully tested according to the new ISO 16245-A standard.
PAT The Image Permanence Institute in Rochester, USA is performing the Photographic Activity Test (PAT, ISO Standard 14523 replaced by ISO 18916) on papers, cardboards and foils of Hans Schröder that are likely to come into direct contact with photographic emulsions. With the symbol on the left, Hans Schröder confirms that marked products have been successfully tested according to the Photographic Activity Test (PAT).
