Pheromone Black Carpet Beetle (Attagenus spp.)
Delivery time about 5-7 days
The species-specific pheromone is located in a plastic pheromone dispenser which is inserted into insect monitors in combination with adhesive surfaces. As soon as the plastic pheromone dispenser is activated, the pheromone is gradually released evenly over a period of up to 6 weeks (retard effect). Since pheromones are volatile substances, the dispenser must not be split up or an attempt made to distribute the pheromone from one dispenser to other monitors. The retard effect is lost and the pheromone's attracting effect lasts too short.
Please note: This product is only a plastic dispenser enriched with pheromones - without adhesive surface and without trap. To catch and hold insects, the dispenser must be placed in an insect monitor trap (e.g. AF Demi Diamond Insect Monitor) together with a neutral adhesive surface (e.g. AF Demi Diamond Adhesive Surfaces - neutral). These associated products are listed below.
Shelf life (unopened / unactivated): 18 months at <15°C, 24 months at <4°C
Catch duration (open / activated): 6 weeks
Place a pheromone trap every 10 meters.
Price per pack of 1 dispenser

GOOD TO KNOW
Our pheromone monitoring trap system for carpet beetles (Pheromone 100238-KG + Monitor Art.-No. 110168-KG + Neutral Adhesive Surfaces Art.-No. 110169-KG) is specifically designed to attract flying adult beetles. Larvae, on the other hand, do not respond to these pheromones, as they primarily serve to attract mating partners.
To monitor or control larvae, neutral adhesive traps (e.g., LUREKING LOWLINE 110705-K) can be used as a supplementary measure. However, larvae only enter these traps by chance, making any captures purely incidental.
Female carpet beetles lay their tiny (approx. 0.5 mm), whitish eggs in dark, protected areas near food sources for the larvae. After a few days to several weeks, the larvae hatch and feed on organic materials such as wool, fur, feathers, or other animal-based products. The larvae are the actual pests, as they cause significant damage to textiles, museum collections, and stored food products.
Effective control requires targeted cleaning of infested areas, particularly cracks, crevices, and dark spaces. Regular vacuuming, wiping, and the removal of infested objects help limit the infestation. Capturing adult beetles is also crucial, as they lay eggs and thus perpetuate the infestation cycle.
In cases of severe infestation, the use of a UV-LED insect trap (e.g., CHAMELEON® QUALIS – Art.-No. 125474-KG) can be an effective solution, as adult beetles are strongly attracted to UV light and can be efficiently captured.
